Match Report 7th Nov 2015: Ardudwy ac Arfon 5 – 0 Llanfaircaereinion| League Game

Relocating to the pitch at Penygroes for their latest home game, Ardudwy ac Arfon took to the wet and windy astro on Saturday, November 7th to take on mid-Walian rivals Llanfair Caereinion. Having previously encountered this young team at the start of season cup competition, Ardudwy knew not to underestimate their fit and pacey opposition.

The game got underway with Ardudwy taking the first push back and the girls in green were on the attack from the off. The ball was released to Kelly Redmayne on the right who successfully used her speed and skill to carry the ball down the wing before putting in the first of a series of excellent crosses to captain Jacqueline Smith. As the first half continued, Redmayne continued to make effective progress down the right-hand side, frequently releasing the ball to a well-positioned Gwenno Davies, who carried the ball into the D providing a number of scoring opportunities, which Smith was able to convert on a couple of occasions to put Ardudwy ahead 2-0. A cross from Flick Brown out on the left wing gave Smith the opportunity to slot home a third just before half time, taking the score to 3-0 at the break.

Ardudwy continued to dominate in the second half, with birthday girl Clare Barwood tirelessly working in midfield to win the ball before using her great close control skills to outwit the opposition and get the ball to Anna Hume and Gwenllian Owen upfront. However, the home team didn’t have it all their own way, Llanfair worked hard to win possession and looked dangerous on the break, but the sterling defence of Jade Wilcockson and Bethan Jones meant that keeper Catrin Parry was only troubled by a couple of shots, which she attacked and cleared with ease. On the left, Ann Goddard also defended well, fighting for every ball and working her way out of the Ardudwy 25 and gaining valuable yards up the wing. Throughout the game, Ardudwy had a number of short corner opportunities and with the game moving into the final quarter, Barwood stepped up and scored a beautifully placed drag flick. A few minutes later, another short corner saw Smith’s strike take a deflection from a Llanfair defender to bring the score to 5-0.

As the final whistle blew, there was just time for a quick three cheers and handshakes all round before the girls headed off for some well-deserved birthday cake, courtesy of Barwood. In difficult conditions, the girls in green cemented their position at the top of the table and now look forward to taking on Porthmadog at home next week.

Ardudwy juniors had a blast at the North Wales Tournament

On Sunday, November 17th, Ardudwy juniors had a great time at the North Wales Youth Tournament held at Rydal, Colwyn Bay.  A variety of temas from across the whole of North Wales travelled to the school to play in an under 11’s tournament and under 13’s tournament, giving the hockey players of tomorrow a terrific experience both on the pitch and team bonding too.

Ardudwy fielded both a girls under 13’s team and a mixed under 13’s team, and we’re proud to state that we’re very impressed with each and every one who took part as their hockey is improving immensely whilst their sportsmanship and level of enjoyment is at an all time high too.  Definitely what we’re all about here at Ardudwy.

We’re looking forward to the next games and tournaments our juniors will have in store over the coming months.

Ardudwy Hockey Club makes headlines

Last week (Thursday, August 1st) Ardudwy Hockey Club was featured in a news article in the Caernarfon Herald due to playing hockey all year long as well as the incredible junior section that’s been set up over the past couple of months.

The news article stated that Ardudwy Hockey Club was “bucking the trend” due to playing all year long, instead of purely between September and March.

We’re super happy to be featured and to be recognised due to all the hard work and effort that’s put in to running the summer league team and the juniors!

We’re excited for the beginning of the season and continue to offer incredible hockey over the summer!

The fun never stops at Ardudwy Hockey Club!
