Ardudwy competes in Wales Women’s Indoor Club Championship Finals

This weekend saw Ardudwy Hockey Club’s ladies head down to Newport to play in the prestigious Women’s Indoor Club Championship finals, playing some of Wales’ finest teams.

Indoor hockey is a fast paced, 5 a-side thrill where players compete in a 2×20 minute halves where a plethora of goals were seen throughout the tournament.

The teams Ardudwy faced have been to play in the European competitions in previous years (and again this year), including:

  • Howardians
  • Penarth
  • Dowlais

Although going to face these teams was a massive ask for the girls in green (and summer league, purple) friends from fellow North Walian clubs helped out, so thank you Rachel Cook, Amelia Dunn, Charlotte Edmunson and Jessica Pugh!

The rest had 4 weeks of pre-Christmas training sessions and 1 post-Christmas training session before traveling down to the edge of South Wales to compete in the brilliant tournament.  Although the scores seemed pretty huge, the intense and furious atmosphere was an absolutely enthralling experience for all! Indoor is a high scoring game anyway, haha!

The rest of the squad compromised of:

  • Ffion Davies (goal keeper and captain)
  • Jaqueline Smith
  • Nicola Ashcroft (team manager)
  • Anna Hume
  • Nia Millar
  • Heledd Rowlands
  • Felicity Smith
  • Jade Wilcockson

A special thanks goes to Ceri Jones, who stepped in last minute as other team manager to keep track of the bench!

We’re looking forward to next year, and will definitely be promoting indoor hockey in North Wales, and using the next 51 weeks to train to close the gaps on those scores.  Being the 4th best indoor team in the whole of Wales isn’t too bad is it?

Scores!
